A word from the Parish Priest
15th May 2020
I greet you all as we rejoice in these first couple of days of Level 2 Alert status.
It was wonderful to open the church early yesterday morning, after seven long weeks of having to keep the church locked. It was hard for many people not being able to come in to the church they know and love so well.
Although our church is now open for prayer each day, we are not yet able to celebrate weekday or Sunday Mass there together. Apart from funerals (which can have 50 people in attendance), all other religious gatherings are restricted to no more than 10 people during this Level 2 Alert Status. The Catholic Bishops of New Zealand have requested that all parishes refrain from gathering for weekday or Sunday Masses at least until we move out of Level 2 Alert Status.
In the meantime let us continue to love and support one another.
God bless you.
Father John Fitzmaurice.
St. Thomas Aquinas once defined a Spiritual Communion as “an ardent desire to receive Jesus in Communion at Mass and in lovingly embracing Him as if we had actually received Him".
This is a prayer composed by St. Alphonsus Liguori: -
My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
